I Love A Good Songbook

Being a fairly new ukulele player myself I know how valuable a good songbook is. Finding someone who’s tabs are accurate, arranged well for the uke, in a format you like and has a good collection of songs… is pure gold.  The first uke songbook I stumbled across was Ukeulele Wednesdays’. It was (still is) glorious and my mind was blown.

ukebrew Songbook Theory

This blog actually started because I had been tabbing out songs for myself and archiving them in a google doc. At some point I noticed it was getting pretty big and it occurred to me that sharing it might be a way I could contribute to the uke community.

All the songs are handpicked and tabbed with love. I like a wide variety of music and I try and keep a good variety of music in the songbook. I try to keep my tabs one page and big print and I always include chord diagrams and strums.

In addition to the “Official ukebrew Songbook” (which is a compilation of all the songs I’ve posted on the blog), I make songbooks specific to the events where I plan to use them, see the Sing-A-Long page for details. With that in mind I’ll post multiple songbooks below created for a variety of events. Hopefully they’re at least a good example or starting point for anyone preparing for similar events.

Disclaimer: I know most of these are actually chord sheets with lyrics… not tabs. But usually when I am searching for something I use the term “tab” and I assume everyone else does the same and I want people to be able to find this stuff. I realize this isn’t really correct and at some point I might figure out a better way to handle it but until then, on this blog “tab” might actually mean chord sheet with lyrics.

The Official ukebrew Songbook

The official ukebrew Songbook is a collection of the songs I’ve posted individually on the blog. It’s small now but it’s growing and as it does I’ll adjust it’s format to keep it as functional as possible (grouping? tags? etc.?). And, like I said earlier, this Songbook is really a child of my big personal archive so if you want a peek at that let me know and I’ll get it shared or something. Also, feel free to contact me if you’ve got a request to add a song to the songbook.

Camp ukebrew Songbook

Originally, I wasn’t planning on sharing this songbook but since the camp sing-a-long went so well I thought someone out there might be trying to do something similar and maybe putting this out early enough in the camp season could help. So it may not be the most refined of my tabs but hopefully it’s useful to anyone preparing for a ukulele sing-a-long around a campfire.

This sing-a-long included everyone from grand parents to grand kids and one beginner ukulele player so I really needed a wide variety of music types. Also, I wanted to avoid all those girl scout songs from the 50s that show up when you search “camp ukulele”. So I looked for (and found) examples of songs that I liked, I thought others would like and be able to sing, and worked well on the uke, from country, kids, classic rock and some current stuff.
